Among the Hobbits of the Shire, Gandalf was famous for his marvelous fireworks. Bilbo had a fond childhood memory of a great display laid on by the wizard, and when the time came for Bilbo’s 111th birthday celebration, Gandalf once more entered the Shire with a cart full of fireworks, causing much excitement among the Hobbit children who ran along beside the cart as it made its way over the Brandywine bridge towards Hobbiton.

MZ662 Lord of the Rings 'GANDALF™ brings fireworks to the Shire' Fellowship figure.
This release is a welcome addition to the Fellowship range of figures and gives lots of scope for those who want to go the ‘extra-mile’ and add extra figures to the scene. The cart is a nice sturdy affair which from a ‘dry’ test-fit appears to go together with no problems, and I guess will be a straight forward build. I would think that Gandalf’s seat will need to be added at the time of construction or it may not fit into the slots if the cart has been glued together. Gandalf is a nicely sculpted figure, waving his hat, and this is complemented by the two hobbit-children running alongside, and the horse is in the Mithril style (reins will need to be added). I would have liked to have had a few more fireworks included, but scratch-building extras shouldn’t be too much of an issue. The base. This is my main gripe with this release. I guess this has added a fair bit to the price of this release, and personally I would have preferred perhaps a small separate base for the two hobbits and a narrower base for the cart and horse. However, for those who like to display their miniatures straight from the box, antique them etc. then I can understand that the base as provided is an integral and essential part of the whole; in the the Mithril-style the base does its job and even has a ‘mile-stone’ as a nice touch. Painted and enhanced with scenic materials I have no doubt that it will look the part. So overall, another very nice addition to the range that I am happy to add to my collection.
