Legolas was a Prince of the Mirkwood Elves, son of Elvenking Thranduil, a mighty warrior that agreed to accompany the Hobbits to destroy the One Ring. He became a lifelong friend of Gimli the Dwarf, an unexpected friendship that helped heal the rift between Elves and Dwarves. During his adventures both Gimli and Legolas defended the Fortress of Helm's Deep from the besieging forces from Isengard, sent by the dark wizard Saruman.
