The Necromancer was later revealed to be the Dark Lord Sauron. He needed time to recover his strength so he hid in an ancient fortress near Mirkwood forest. Such evil cannot be completely hidden as it attracts other evil creatures to it so rumours and stories spread throughout the land of some kind of Necromancer residing there. He would need servants to carry out his instructions, but the nature of such creatures is difficult to ascertain. Certainly they could be monsters like vampires and werewolves or other non-human beings and they would seek power themselves and be in thrall to Sauron. This sculpt shows such a creature, bowing as he relays news to his lord, a potentially dangerous task when addressing something as cruel and callous as Sauron. This makes an excellent extension to MZ683 The Necromancer of Mirkwood.
