Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took were friends of Frodo and Samwise and they were companions on the epic trek from their Hobbit homeland of the peaceful Shire all the way to Mordor (although each had their own adventures along the way too). Later, Pippin and Merry were instrumental in overthrowing Saruman's forces during the Scouring of the Shire, and thus achieved much greater fame in their homeland than Frodo and Sam.

Painting Guide:

Before you start to paint, assemble the figures. Our painter has given Merry a lighter green cape using green 886 with a wash of 830 dry brushed with 886 with white. The shirt is painted using 912 mixed with 951 to form several shades of light buff. The darker shades are added first, and finished with dry brushing the tops of the folds with the lightest shade. His satchel is given a coat of 981 and then a wash of 985. When the hobbits arrived at Tom Bombadil's house they were described as having muddy cloaks and tangled hair so it may be chosen to roughen their appearance slightly. The bases are finished with Green 890, and dry brushed with 915, to give the effect of grass.

Pippin's shirt is given a coat of red 802 with a wash of 946 and lightly dry brush 802. The cuffs and facing of his shirt are lined with a light brown 877. His hat is given a coat of 977 with a light wash of 875 The hat band is painted with green 823 and the clay pipe white 951. Pippin's cloak is painted using brown 857 washed with 984 and dry brushed with 857 with a little 977 added. His jacket is painted using 823 and washed with 896. The bases are finished with Green 890, and dry brushed with 915, to give the effect of grass.
