Mithril enters the third phase of the journey through the story of The Lord of the Rings. In this phase the Hobbits leave Crickhollow and end up at Tom Bombadil's home. They encounter a very hostile tree, called Old Man Willow, and get rescued by the mysterious singing stranger Tom Bombadil. They later meet his wife Goldberry. Tom and Goldberry are very different to any other encounter in the books, and Tom shows that he is immune to the corruption of the One Ring but that he should not hold onto it either.
