Gimli was the son of Glóin and the nephew of Óin. He was part of the Fellowship of the Ring and became fast friends of Legolas, an Elven prince of Mirkwood, healing a rift between those peoples that started during the encounter with Thorin and his companions in Mirkwood forest during The Hobbit.
