One of the mysterious rangers of the North, Strider befriended the Hobbits at Bree and led them safely from there to Rivendell, protecting them from the attacks of the terrible Ringwraiths. In reality Strider was the Dunedain prince Aragorn, heir to the crowns of both Arnor and Gondor. He was to become, after Gandalf's fall, the leader of the Fellowship.
