January 2022 Releases: The Head of Grond and Mordor Draught Beast Driver
Posted by Michael O'Brien on 11th Jan 2022
After a long delay in releases for the latter part of 2021 we wanted to start off 2022 with two strong releases. The first is the Head of GROND (MZ699), the top of a huge battering ram that was used by the forces of Mordor to smash through the gate of Minas Tirith during that famous siege. It is shaped after a snarling wolf and has the alternative name of 'Wolf's Head'. It was named to honour a famous warhammer wielded by the dark lord Morgoth.
The second release was the Variag Draught Beast Driver (MZ698). We had released the Draught Beast last year so this was the inevitable follow up character, the person who manages such a monster. These creatures are fierce, unpredictable and prone to ramage if angered or hurt too much. Such conditions are certainly possible as they are used to haul siege equipment and supplies for the armies of Mordor. The driver is a Variag, a people loyal to Mordor.
These two ideas were Fellowship winners from March and April 2021.
Both are metal and unprimed. The head of Grond comes as a single piece but the driver does require a little assembly as the base and weapon are separate to the body.
There will be another release next month which should include the Galadriel's Swan Boat and the 2021 Christmas figure.
